Texscan Corp. was founded in 1965 and was a manufacturer of test equipment and other cable TV equipment. In 1980, Texscan Corp. acquired Marketing Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of character generators. A new branch of the Texscan company was formed, called Texscan MSI. In 1983, Texscan MSI acquired Computer Video Systems, Inc., another manufacturer of character generators under the COMPUVID name. The combined company was named Texscan MSI/Compuvid.
